Why is Social Anxiety Disorder Interesting?

Social anxiety may present in a number of ways, with different symptoms affecting people in different ways. The main symptom of the disorder is an irrational fear of social situations or activities, because you fear others are watching or judging you.Another common symptom is the fear that you will embarrass yourself in front of other people. The fear evolves into an unwillingness to participate in many social activities to prevent the inevitable judgment and embarrassment.

In addition to the psychological symptoms of social anxiety, there are also physical symptoms that may be experienced. Some of these physical signs might include heart palpitations, profuse sweating, stomach upset and trembling. When you interact with others, you might have difficulty making eye contact with them and you may find that your voice shakes when you try to speak.

When you deal with social anxiety, you often also have to grapple with self esteem issues and the inability to accept any type of criticism. Most people with social anxiety understand that their fears and anxieties are not logical, but they can’t do anything to stop them.A nasty circle erupts when you begin to fear the social fear itself, which becomes the source of much of your distress. When social anxiety begins to dominate your life and get in the way of your relationships and daily activities, it is time to talk to a doctor.

The good news is that there are effective treatment for social anxiety disorder and they usually involve a combination of medication and psychotherapy.Selective seratonin uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are often the medication of choice for treating social anxiety, with commercial names like Prozac or Paxil. The most effective psychotherapy technique is cognitive behavioral therapy, which helps the patient alter thought processes to reduce the fear of social situations. When medication and psychotherapy are combined effectively, you can often enjoy less anxiety and a higher quality of life.

Is this anxiety, paranoia, panic attacks, or just shot nerves?

My girlfriend tells me that when I’m not home she gets really nervous, jumps at every little sound, is afraid to go into the basement, and can’t get anything done. She says she feels like someone is behind her and she constantly looks behind and around her. She is also mildly uncomfortable in social situations. I have experienced some of these symptoms before but not to the extent they affected my life. What should we do? Should she talk to a therapist? I would prefer a easier method.

how can i tell if i have general anxiety disorder?

My friend, who has anxiety disorder recognized her symptoms
i looked it up on google and found the symptoms.
it appears to me that i have it but my parents don't believe me and won't pay for me to get tested so i just want to know for my own knowledge if i probably have it
my symptoms are:
-in social situations i can't focus and i have "attacks" when there is too much going on around me. it's like i'm incapable of blocking things out that are normally easy to.
-i can't get to sleep because there are too many things running through my mind and i have to get up and do them before i can sleep so i normally end up staying up until the point of exhaustion cleaning and working
-my mind goes blank a lot and i can't really focus sometimes even if everything is completely silent
-when things get completely silent i can't concentrate
-i can't sit down i have to move when i'm upset to cope with things, when i sit down i have a worse "attack"
please don't call me crazy or make rude comments.

I think I have an anxiety Disorder, any help confirming it?

Okay, I looked at the symptoms of General Anxiety disorder and I have some of the sympoms. But I don’t always feel like that, its only in some social situations (As in going on a date w/ my girlfriend, or even sometimes hanging out with her.) I get sick to my stomach and often throw up, I feel like theres a lump in my throat I cant concentrate and I get scared to the point I want to just get up and run away. I used to think Im just shy, but around other people I’m not like this. So I’m thinking I have like a specific anxiety disorder or something.
