Help with panic/anxiety medications…?

I have been suffering from panic disorder for 5 years. I have gone through therapy where the doctor just ended drugging me up with so many different types of anti-depressants..which didn’t work, they only made me have more anxiety. the one doctor gave me xanax. Only 1 mg a day..to be split in half, half in the am when I wake up, and half in the afternoon around 4…since then I can count the amount of anxiety/panic attacks I have had on one hand. Yes I know…THEY ARE HIGHLY ADDICTIVE..BUT THEY WORK. Also I have found no matter what medication you take they are all addictive. Has anyone found a medication that actually helps with the anxiety? No Effexor, Lexapro, Paxil…etc. I have tried these. Just needingt some help and feedback. Thanks

Anxiety Disorder

An anxiety disorder is an ongoing issue that affects you in a variety of ways, lowering your quality of life and impacting your personal as well as your professional life. You may be diagnosed with an anxiety disorder as a child or you may not develop any symptoms of this condition until much later in life. There are many different types of anxiety disorders currently diagnosed, including obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorders and generalized anxiety. For the purpose of this article, we will look more closely at one type of anxiety disorder, generalized anxiety disorder.

The most common symptom of generalized anxiety disorders is a constant feeling of fear or concern over all kinds of daily issues. The constant influx of worry leads to both physical and psychological tension that makes it difficult to get a good night\\\’s rest.Worries can also lead to other physical symptoms, including stomach disorders like nausea and diarrhea.People with generalized anxiety disorder may also experience regular muscle tension that can lead to back and neck pain and frequent headaches.

At this time, there is no known cause for generalized anxiety disorder.Because many with this condition respond favorably to medications, there is some thought that generalized anxiety disorder affects certain brain chemicals like dopamine and serotonin.Other factors that may play a part in this diagnosis include environmental factors and genetics, since the disorder tends to run in families. Some people that endure particularly stressful events in life may also go on to develop generalized anxiety disorder.

While the cause is still uncertain, there are now treatment options that can affectively control the symptoms so patients can enjoy a higher quality of life. The first course of action is often a medication, like those used to treat depression and a host of other psychological disorders. These medications include selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) like Prozac and Paxil, which are effectively used for this purpose. However, if SSRIs do not do the trick for some patients, doctors have a number of other medications they can try as well.

Most patients find that the best treatment plan includes one of these medications and regular psychotherapy sessions.Psychotherapy helps patients alter their thought processes so they can relieve the tension and anxiety that results from constant worry and fear. The doctor who leads these psychotherapy sessions is most frequently a psychiatrist or psychologist trained in treating anxiety disorders. When the right medication is combined with effective psychotherapy sessions, the result is usually as reduction of symptoms and a higher quality of life for the patient.
